Updates

Greer Cultural Arts Center Exhibit

We are excited that we were asked to exhibit again this year at the Greer Cultural Center in July and August. Working with that team is an honor. I suggested a title of Interwoven 2026 but it's up to Robin and the team. We will begin marketing as soon as we get exact dates for the show, drop off and pick up dates, and a marketing theme. We hope to have a section dedicated to 12"x12" pieces so get your creative hats.

  • Send a photo of the pieces you would like to have in the show (even works in progress) to JFM asap so we can begin assessing the exhibit works.

  • Please include dimensions and name with the photos.

Better World Studios

Susan confirmed that the theme will be Telling Stories in Fiber. Even if you don't have a story for your piece, you have an inspiration or a personal description you can share and that's what we can display by the work.

Susan explained that she will work with Linda Sexton-Patrick and Marcee Musgrove to "jury" the pieces. As a group we have quite an impressive inventory of work and we want to make sure it all shines within the space and theme so I'm really looking forward to see how the team puts the show together.

We have an online meeting planned with the Better World Studios later this month and will share more details after that.

New and Revised Work Shared

Cynthia

The felted piece was enhanced thanks to some helpful critiques from the group at the last meeting and the small piece is an example of how to better display a 2D quilt for exhibiting. Cynthia used a number of techniques on the small piece: painting beading, stitching.

Grace

The top two picture show a current piece designed and made by Grace. The piece in the hoop is a stitched and layered (3D presentation) of a sketch for the piece shown in the second picture. The remaining photos are pieced that she did not bring to show but are examples of her design collection.

By the way, Sonya shown on the left, is also a fashion designer who joined us this month and shared a brochure of some of her work. We are excited to see more. She is also a doll maker...we will have a fabulous doll collection of works by Sonya, Mary, and Irene in shows coming up so tell your friends.

Selene

The sketch shows her next art piece. I loved the piece so much I imposed on her a desire to execute the drawing using a different process than she uses. Others jumped in on the challenge also. Can't wait to see the many interpretations of that work.

If you would like a print of this piece, please contact Mary directly. Mary volunteered to get printouts so talk to her about what size printouts she can provide. If you want help with a process to execute the piece contact me directly and I'll get you to the right person to help you.

Jean

Jean shared the story behind her felted piece including the picture painted by her sister that inspired the piece. After the death of her sister, the painting disappeared but Jean had taken the picture and now has made a wonderful tribute to her sister.

Irene

Irene's use of shared blocks turned into a great example of a modern wall quilt. One of the joys of this group is seeing things through different lens. Her new dolls make me want to go back to being six...she packs a gigantic punch of personality in those small dolls.

Johnnie

Some finishes, redo's, and one new piece.

Special Thanks to Linda Neeley

Linda's workshop on artist trading cards sparked a lot of creativity in this meeting. She provided sooooooo much fodder to choose from. THANK YOU LINDA. Please know that many of the pictures below are of her work. She provided most of the pictures in the blog...talk about multi-tasking.

And thanks to Marcee for sharing her acrylic skins. LOVE 'EM. I'm not labeling each picture but hope you enjoy the overview.

WHEW! We had a super meeting and lots of art was created in the last month.
