Selene and I had the priveledge of entering and being accepted in the Fabulous Forgeries Show at Blue Ridge Art Center located at 111 East South Second St., Seneca, SC. I attended the opening and reception. There was a huge turnout which I thought was amazing for a small town.
The criteria for the show was to take a work of art by a famous artist and use it as inspiration to create your art. The show was really nice and displayed very well. I particularly liked the entries who took the artwork and actually changed it or recreated it in a different medium. The copies some did were good but didn't really excite me.
I won a Merit Award ($100) for my take on Van Gogh's Smoking Skeleton. I call it "If Van Gogh Would Sew (Because you know he could)"

Selene's was the largest piece there and really stood out. My husband couldn't believe it was fabric. He thought she had painted it, but I overheard two ladies talking about it and they knew it was fabric. They were fiber artists of course.
This was my most favorite art in the whole show. Beautifully executed, great detail and so much fun.
I like the way the artist simplified this painting to an almost cartoon state. He didn't bother with all the detail because he knew the painting was so well known he didn't have to take the pains Wyeth took with detail.
David Hockney recently passed away. He painted a lot of swimming pools expressing the California lifestyle. This painting was done in his realialistic style. The glasses and ashtry are in David's memory. This one touched my heart.
Show runs through August 21. Gallery hours are Wednesday - Friday from 1pm to 4 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 1 pm.
