Artist Statement

I was Born in Kabul, Afghanistan where my parents were working as educators as well as for UNESCO. At the age of 5, I moved with my family to a suburb of Paris, France where we lived for 10 years.  My elementary and secondary education took place in French schools until the last 2 years when I was sent to a boarding school in North Wales, to get a crash course in English.  This prepared me for College in Michigan and higher education in various places in the US.

I worked in research and development for a small company in Oklahoma, and am now retired and living in Hendersonville, NC with my Kiwi husband.

The first few years of retirement in NC were spent taking care of granddaughters and learning the skills involved in traditional Patchwork Quilting. I quickly moved on to portraits and landscapes where I use Raw Edge Appliqué. In the last few years, I have continued in this direction, using slides and negatives from my parents, taken in Afghanistan. I have incorporated the use of my own hand dyed fabrics to create quilts that help tell a story about the individuals portrayed.

Screen printing on fabrics and the use of these fabrics in my work has added another dimension to my art quilting journey.
